Jan founded RIFT Group in 1999 to specialise in tax refunds, after tax law changes led to many construction workers being owed rebates from HMRC, with most unaware and missing out. Putting her accounting background to work, she was able to help reclaim over £380 million in tax rebates. Her leadership has driven the company to employ over 160 people, earn recognition as one of Kent's fastest-growing companies and expand into a range of finance and accounting services for individuals and small businesses.
Beyond RIFT, Jan has launched JobMatcha, a platform promoting worker welfare that aims to transform construction recruitment through a focus on compliance and social value. Active in charity, Jan serves as a council member of The Lighthouse Club, supporting construction workers and their families. Meanwhile, her not-for-profit RIFT Social Enterprise is forging a pathway into meaningful, sustainable work for people with convictions.
Jan’s efforts have earned her numerous awards, including being named one of Kent’s 40 most influential business leaders and winning titles like Woman of the Year in Construction. She also serves as a Kent Ambassador, helping to improve life in the region.
A passionate advocate for individuals and small businesses, Jan’s entrepreneurial spirit is rooted in her family background, and she continues to drive positive change through her various ventures and community work.
Jan says: “At the heart of it all is our determination to make life better for the people who come to us. Our expertise in tax and finance has helped customers recover after falling victim to bogus accountants, wiped thousands of pounds from their HMRC debts and even put roofs over their heads at Christmas.”
