The Lighthouse Club: a Beacon for UK Construction Workers in Need
18th November 2020
We’ve always been proud of our charity partners at RIFT. Over the last 2 decades, we’ve been privileged to work with some amazing organisations, making regular donations, promoting their efforts and both sponsoring and participating in their events.
The Lighthouse Club is a wonderful charity, providing much-needed practical, financial and emotional support to construction workers and their families in times of need. They’ve been looking out for building trade workers for well over 60 years, and we’re delighted to help spread their message a little wider this festive season. Here are a few words from their Charity Ambassador, Lyndsey Gallagher.
"I hope you and your families are keeping safe and well in these strange times. Sadly, we had to cancel our South-East Dinner earlier in the yea. Fingers crossed we will all be back together in happier times next year where we promise a fantastic night to remember.
As you can imagine, our charity has suffered this year, like many others, with the cancellation of all of our events. Our Christmas events are our biggest fundraisers, and usually raise over £350,000 across the country.
Not only have we seen a sharp decline in funds, but we have also seen a large increase in calls to our helpline. Sadly, Covid-19 has had a detrimental effect, both physically and also on the mental health of our fellow construction workers. Suicide rates have sharply increased in the past 8 months.
As a charity, Mental Health is a huge focus for us. With this in mind, we have for the past 8 months been offering the following FREE workshops to everyone working in the Construction Industry:
- Mental Health Awareness
- Mental Health First Aid
- Balancing Life & Work
- Building Resilience
- Bang on Budget – how to manage your money better
- CV Workshop
- ‘At the Interview’ – Helping people get back into work
- Managing Stress
- Mindfulness
- Meditation
Due to such high demand, we will be offering this service into 2021 to ensure no construction worker or their family feels alone during this crisis."
